The Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall 2025 concluded its highly anticipated annual meeting with record attendance, dynamic sessions, and renewed momentum for innovation in wound care. Clinicians, researchers, and healthcare leaders gathered to exchange insights, share real-world experiences, and strengthen the interdisciplinary collaboration that drives better patient outcomes.
This year’s program showcased focused content and diverse learning formats, offering attendees both practical skills and cutting-edge science across every dimension of wound management.
Focused Tracks for Every Professional
Among the most celebrated components of the conference was the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) Track, a two-day deep dive into pressure injury staging, support surfaces, legal risk, and evidence-based prevention. “This collaboration between SAWC and NPIAP reflects our shared commitment to elevating both bedside care and system-wide strategy,” said David Brienza, PhD, President of NPIAP. “With pressure injuries among the most litigated and costly hospital-acquired conditions, bringing education and policy under one roof is both timely and essential.”
The Amputation Prevention (AMP) Symposium drew global experts in limb preservation, offering advanced instruction on surgical and endovascular techniques, PAD-related wound care, and the management of complex vascular disease. Attendees praised the series for its immediate clinical relevance and global perspective.
Practical Guidance Meets Real-World Impact
Clinicians also packed the Wound Care Business Navigator sessions, where experts broke down the operational side of wound care — from documentation and billing codes to reimbursement strategies and audit readiness. The PAWSIC Forums, hosted by the Post-Acute Wound & Skin Integrity Council, explored the future of wound care through discussions on AI, diagnostic tools, post-acute transitions, and value-based care.
Interactive learning remained a hallmark of SAWC Fall. Case-Based Presentations gave attendees an inside look at real clinical decision-making and complications, while Rapid Fire sessions offered fast-paced updates on the latest data and innovations. The Accredited Hands-On Workshops — including skills labs in NPWT, compression therapy, and infection management — allowed participants to immediately apply what they learned.
Innovation and Collaboration Take Center Stage
Sponsored Innovation Theaters and Industry-Supported Symposia showcased the latest in wound care technology and treatment protocols. Attendees engaged directly with product experts, exploring how novel devices and evidence-based therapies can transform outcomes for patients with complex wounds.
“This isn’t just another conference,” said Dot Weir, RN, CWON, CWS, Conference Co-Chair. “It’s where clinicians gain the tools and confidence to deliver impact in wound healing and patient outcomes.”
A Faculty of Leaders Driving the Future of Wound Care
The event featured more than 55 expert faculty members, including leading clinicians and innovators such as Jeanine Maguire, PhD, MS, MPT, FAAC, CWS, George Pliagas, MD, and Kara Couch, MS, CRNP, CWCN-AP, FAAWC. A keynote from Cam Ayala, patient advocate and lymphedema awareness champion, brought a powerful human dimension to the discussion, reminding attendees of the personal impact of their work.
Why It Matters
Chronic wounds affect 6.7 million Americans, and their prevalence continues to rise alongside rates of hospitalization and amputation. Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the third leading cause of cardiovascular death worldwide, while pressure injuries remain among the most litigated and costly hospital-acquired conditions. As documentation, compliance, and reimbursement demands intensify, standardized education becomes more crucial than ever. SAWC Fall 2025 addressed these challenges head-on, equipping clinicians with the tools to reduce complications, improve outcomes, and strengthen continuity of care.
Join the Movement
Healthcare providers, wound care specialists, administrators, and policy leaders are encouraged to participate in future SAWC events to stay ahead of the evolving landscape of wound management. Attendees earn CE credits, gain immediately applicable skills, and connect with peers and mentors shaping the field.
